Good Works: Acts of optimism

I believe architecture is an art form of optimism.

To design is to dream. To build is to hope.

Perhaps you’re like me: you look around and see a world full of beauty and wonder. And yet, simultaneously, you can’t escape the feeling that something's not right. Inside you know things aren't as they should be.

Our built environment is out of balance with the natural environment. We are disconnected from the living systems around us.

Our built environment is also out of balance with the social environment. Our cities—the structures that should connect us as neighbors and citizens—all too frequently inhibit our ability to connect in community.

Yet the acts of designing and building send an implicit message: Things can be better than they are now!

Let’s make things better together. Let's put a vision of hope for a better world into built form.
